Energy Saving Trust: Old stuff just has more soul

Old stuff just has more soul

Do you love the smell of musty, old books and like nothing more than sifting through the rubble in antique shops? You’re not the only one.

Investing in old classics is environmentally friendly and it provides a break from the constant facebook updating, topshop visiting, iphone waving crowds. I’ve been whittering on about wanting a retro telephone for ages. It uses a lot less energy than a cordless phone, not to mention it looks very cool.

The mood of the moment seems to be to hark back to the past. It’s everywhere I turn. The supermarkets are taking the inspiration for their packaging from days of yore, modest 50s tea dresses are the height of fashion and eighties inspired electro pop is being played on Radio 1. There are whispers everywhere of a return to wartime ‘waste not, want not’ values.

Happily, this works well with our mission to live more sustainable lives. If we continue to frequent charity and vintage shops and use all the faboulous man made junk already out there then it reduces the need to produce more. Good news. Now where did I put that bowler hat?
