Aberystwyth University was founded in 1872 making it the first University college in Wales.
But before I bore you with all the history – here’s a few facts for you!
1.We were one of the first Universities in the UK to offer females the chance of getting a degree!
2.A great storm in 1938 shortened the seaward end of the Pier by nearly 200 feet.
3.At dusk during winter thousands of starlings perform dramatic aerial displays before roosting under the pier.
Of course, if you have had the pleasure of staying here for any length of time – you already know this!
So something you might not know:
The University motto is: “Nid Byd, Byd Heb Wybodaeth.” Which translates to “A world with out knowledge, is no world.”
Let me put it this way.
Aberystwyth is one of those places that you just fall in love with. It has a great history and is a beautiful town. It provides academic excellence throughout its departments and offers its residences a safe, friendly and vibrant location to easily enjoy some of the best natural surroundings in the UK.
